About the Author
Imen Edmond is a mother and certified teacher with over a decade of classroom experience. She has also worked in educational software and curriculum development and design. She holds a Bachelor’s in Child & Family Development from Georgia Southern University, a Master of Education in Instructional Technology from American InterContinental University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Shorter University. She is an energetic, creative, reliable and adaptable professional with a solid understanding of child and family development education and instructional technology. Her career encompasses community service, teaching, consulting, curriculum development and leadership roles with dedication, precision and attention to detail. In her classroom, she uses the call and response “Dukes and Duchesses, All Hail the Queen” to engage her students. A call and response is a style of communication where one person (the caller) speaks or sings a phrase and the other person (the responder) responds with a phrase. It is a common form of communication in many cultures and can be used for various purposes, including storytelling, entertainment, prayer and music. In the classroom, it is a quick way to redirect and get students’ attention. In Ms. Edmond's classroom, it also establishes that she believes her students are future kings and queens—and further establishes a sense of mutual respect and love in her classroom community.
